Product Information

This glass directs the flow of wine onto the zone of the tongue which perceives sweetness, thereby highlighting the rich fruit and tempering the high acidity of the wine. The large bowl captures all the nuances of the wine’s aroma. Although this glass is quite differently shaped from the equivalent Sommeliers glass, the Burgundy Grand Cru (4400/16), both designs are as effective in bringing out the character of the wine because they control the flow of the wine onto the palate in the same manner.

The Vinum Range

1986 was not just an important year for Riedel but for all wine lovers around the world. The launch of the machine-made Vinum glass collection by Riedel Glas fundamentally changed the drinking glass culture. In 1973, Claus J. Riedel, the ninth generation of the family-run company, introduced a winefriendly, handcrafted and hand blown range of glasses. The “Sommeliers” range is now world famous. In 1986, his son, Georg J. Riedel, presented a further innovation which would become even more significant: the first varietal-specific machine-made glass in history – Vinum!

Developed with great passion and based on the well-founded specialist knowledge of Georg J. Riedel, the glasses from the Vinum range provide a reasonably priced alternative to the handcrafted Sommeliers range. With the Vinum range, Riedel has ensured that the company’s philosophy of the functional wine glass is affordable and has thus become world renowned. Vinum has become the best-selling glassware of all time.
